Teledyne e2v launches next generation of trilinear line scan cameras

Teledyne e2v, the global innovator of imaging solutions, announces its next generation of line scan cameras – the high-resolution ELiiXA+ trilinear color range. These new 8k pixel cameras are ideal for industrial applications that require high color resolution and image sharpness such as print, label, textile, electronic and PCB inspection.

It is estimated that more than 20 percent of factory-based line scan applications already benefit from color imaging. The trilinear configuration of the new ELiiXA+ range not only enables color images, but also makes it possible to use a multi-light set up to discriminate the light coming from different angles in a single scan. This reduces production time, compared to using sequentially pulsing lights.

The first camera model in the ELiiXA+ trilinear color range has a CameraLink interface and can be operated at up to 33KHz with an 8k pixel resolution. Designed with cost in mind, it can replace CCD trilinear cameras, enabling system integrators to increase speed or resolution, whilst reducing the cost of ownership. It is an entry-level product with prices starting below $3,000 for a single unit.

Due to their highly versatile multiline sensors, the cameras can also be customized for customers that require specific features, including different types of color filters adapted to their application or specific lighting requirement. Customer sampling of the new range will start in February 2018.

A higher speed CoaXPress model for mid-end applications will follow later this year. These cameras will share the same form factor and front face mechanics as the CameraLink model, providing customers with the future flexibility to upgrade to a higher spec model, without changing the underlying system mechanics.

Teledyne e2v will be exhibiting at SPIE Photonics West, 30 January to 1 February 2018 in San Francisco, USA. You can find our imaging team on booth 1836.For media enquiries, please contact:

Teledyne e2v launches new OctoPlus line scan cameras for Optical Coherence Tomography

Teledyne e2v, the global innovator of imaging solutions, has developed a new range of line scan cameras for Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) applications in healthcare and industrial markets. The new OctoPlus range will have an immediate impact in ophthalmic OCT by reducing patient examination times and increasing the field of view available to practitioners when carrying out non-invasive eye examinations.

OctoPlus was developed following discussions with doctors and medical industry professionals. It is based on new image sensor pixel architecture and is specifically tuned to provide users with the most accurate images of the retina and cornea; mapping tissue structure, measuring thickness and visualising blood flow dynamics for diagnostics.

OctoPlus will benefit patients, doctors and OCT equipment manufacturers by increasing patient comfort during eye tests, reducing examination time and enabling doctors to make more timely decisions. For doctors, OctoPlus will more than double the eye surface captured in a single scan without sacrificing resolution, and will improve confidence in the diagnosis protocol. This will lead to more effective treatment decisions based on OCT angiography and will allow for earlier detection of peripheral pathologies like diabetic retinopathy.

Specific advantages of OctoPlus include a 250 percent larger field of view compared to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved commercial Swept Source OCT (SS-OCT) and a +5dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in comparison with equipment currently available in Spectral-Domain OCT (SD-OCT).

A further benefit of OctoPlus is that it saves 60 percent of the power used by previous designs. This reduces heat generation, improves the stability of OCT equipment and increases maintenance intervals.

François Thouret, President of Professional Imaging at Teledyne e2v, said, “OctoPlus is a very exciting technology development for OCT. Within the next year, doctors will have wider access to functional imaging, which will benefit both patients and healthcare systems. Thinking beyond existing OCT markets, our ambition is to collaborate with partners to develop further innovation in OCT for emerging applications like neurology and dermatology.”

The launch of OctoPlus follows the introduction of Teledyne e2v’s ADQ14OCT, the first 14bit digitizer for SS-OCT, enabling high speed and high depth imaging.

e2v’s new CMOS sensors feature the world’s smallest true global shutter

e2v has launched its ground breaking new Emerald family of CMOS image sensors. This new product family features the world’s smallest true global shutter pixel available on the market today (2.8µm). With a smaller optical format and higher resolutions, the new sensors lead to improved performance and reduced system costs for customers.

This new generation of image sensors marks a significant improvement of Dark Signal Non Uniformity (DSNU), that is 10 times improved when compared to other CMOS products. This allows cameras to perform better in high temperatures and enables long exposures to be used in low-light applications such as microscopes or outdoor cameras for surveillance, speed and traffic applications.

e2v’s Emerald family comprises a 16MP (4096 x 4096 pixels), which is the first to be released, a 12MP (4096 x 3072 pixels) and a 8MP (4096 x 2160 pixels). These high resolution formats are a world first and include a one inch optical format, which can be interfaced with a compact C Mount lens. This innovation makes the new sensors ideal for a wide range of industrial applications.

The whole Emerald family features the same pixel, processing, readout structures and ceramic Land Grid Array (LGA) package to simplify integration, helping to lower development costs for camera makers. The new products have dedicated embedded features including High Dynamic Range (HDR) modes, 8/10/12 bit Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs), modulable high speed outputs (60fps at 10 bits, full 16MP resolution), and a number of convenient power saving modes. These impressive features are the result of e2v working closely with customers to anticipate their future needs and to address the growing trends of the machine vision market.

Gareth Powell, Marketing Manager for Professional Imaging at e2v, said, “Our new Emerald sensors use advanced CMOS image process technology and pixel design to offer a low noise global shutter pixel, with an electro-optical performance tuned to meet the demanding requirements of the machine vision industry. The sensors deliver Quantum Efficiency of more than 65%, a full well capacity of over 7ke, a typical temporal noise of 4e- and a new low-noise mode to offer typically around 2e-.”

e2v introduces new Onyx 1.3 Mpixel low light CMOS image sensor

e2v has announced the launch of the Onyx 1.3 Megapixel CMOS image sensor. This new sensor has been designed using e2v’s advanced CMOS imaging technology, making it ideal for low light applications where premium performance imaging is required.

The Onyx EV76C664 has an innovative pixel design which offers excellent sensitivity and performance in the near infra-red spectrum, and can also cater for ‘all-light’ environments (typical of outdoor camera applications) where wide dynamic range is also needed.

The new device features an embedded active imaging system which synchronises external illumination and internal electronic shuttering. This allows discernible colour images to be produced at extremely low light levels and through diffusing environments (e.g. fog and smoke) by range-gating, making it ideal for Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) and security cameras.

The device also features electronic global shutter (true snapshot) and rolling shutter modes, LVDS outputs and offers a high readout speed at full resolution.

The new sensor is available in sparse colour and monochrome filter (EV76C664ACT) and black and white (EV76C664ABT).
